Benefits of Sound Healing

Benefits of Sound Healing

Do you find yourself calmed or soothed by certain kinds of music? Have you ever felt your mind transported to another time or place just by listening to a song?

That’s sound healing.

Sound can be very powerful, especially as it is applied to calming and healing the mind, body and spirit. It can be used in individual healing sessions, as background for meditation or yoga, or as an intense sound bath that fills the room with sound.

Here are 5 basic benefits of sound healing.

The soothing sounds help the body to calm, quiet the mind, and let go of all that it is holding onto. The body can finally find deep relaxation and peace.

The healing sound vibration is also effective in meditation, to help calm, center and relax, finding that blissful space within oneself. The sound gives a person a focal point to center their attention on, helping to block out all other sounds or distractions.

Sound waves are able to easily move through the tissues of the body, even through bones. The vibration is able to powerfully yet gently shake loose what is stuck and allow for free movement of flow in the body. It is effective whether the blockage is physical, mental, or emotional. Clearing away what we don’t need, leaves room for what we do need for healing and wellbeing.

I use crystal singing bowls to create this healing sound vibration during a healing session and also in meditations. This high vibration of sound helps the person to go into a deeply relaxed meditative state. From this deep state the body is able to let go more easily without resistance or holding. The healing happens effortlessly. The old emotions that had been held so tightly begin to evaporate and melt away. There is also other skilled healing that is used in conjunction with the sound to facilitate the deepest healing, but right now we are focusing on sound healing.

Connecting with spirit:

It also helps to transcend the physical reality and reach other dimensions. Sound can be a conduit for accessing higher consciousness or connecting to spirit. It is extremely helpful for beginning meditators to use music or sound to assist them in quieting their mind and get to a deeper relaxed state without so much effort or frustration.

The various tones in sound healing help to balance the mind, body, heart and spirit. This overall balancing helps us to live a more balanced, peaceful and healthy lifestyle.

Pay attention to the effects that sound has on you. How does it effect your emotions? What music or sound helps you to release your stress and holding? Which type of music helps you go escape your reality and go “someplace else”? How can you use this a a self-care practice? Find what works best for you and incorporate that into a daily routine. What resonates deep within you?

If you would like to try sound healing, I have a free gift that includes a meditation for calming your mind and soothing your soul. You can find that free gift on my website, www.krisgroth.com

  1. Hi Kris, What a great article! The benefits of sound healing are tremendous and you laid them out in a way that is super easy for people to understand and resonate with! Great writing! xoxo

  2. We’re in sync as I just shared many of the key points in a recent email to my tribe. I especially agree with, “Connecting with spirit:
It also helps to transcend the physical reality and reach other dimensions.”
I play a Tibetan bowl –my self-gift for a birthday –every morning as I begin my Divine Dialogue Writing practice. It’s been interesting to feel the different tones as the weather changed here in Florida…my bowl doesn’t like the 45 temps…it prefers 76! Lol

    1. Thanks for sharing Lore. I love your Divine Dialogue Writing Practice and combining it with sound…very powerful! I know what you mean about the cold. I’m in Minnesota, and they really don’t like to freezing temps. I’m sure they would love it in Florida! I know I would! 😉

    1. Thanks so much for your support Jill! Last week I did my first TV spot with my bowls, and this weekend I will be performing with them at an event that I also have a booth. We just keep taking steps and moving forward! Blessings to you!

  3. Thank you for sharing this beautiful post. I don’t know what I would do without music. Listening to it is everything to me, always has been. Today I was intuitively guided to write a post on music.

    1. I love how the intuition and guidance can flow through random things like music or hearing a certain song. That should have a 6th benefit! Thanks for sharing!

  4. It is interesting to me how one intuitively is drawn to one aspect or another is sound healing. I initially used sound healing for Centering, last summer was clearing and balancing. Thank you for this post.
